Online sales of cosmetics in China rose 26% in the first half of the year

Although the online cosmetics trade in China is growing rapidly, the growth momentum slowed in the first half of this year due to coVID-19.

According to the Korean Trade Association, China’s cosmetics industry is recovering from the impact of live streaming.

According to the National Business Daily, from January to June this year, online sales of cosmetics (including body beauty and essential oils) reached 49.54 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.1%, but the growth rate dropped by 49.5 percentage points, slowing down, according to the beauty market survey data.

Especially compared with skin care products, cosmetics are more affected by the epidemic.

The online sales volume of cosmetics perfume and perfume (including cosmetics tools) from January to June this year reached 17.356 billion yuan, an increase of 1.67 billion yuan over the same period last year, with a year-on-year growth of 10.6%.The growth rate was 83 percentage points lower than that of the previous year.

Skincare brands have a very different profile in China and are attracting attention.

Chinese female consumers who prefer to buy cosmetics online are also on the rise compared with brick-and-mortar stores.

According to the research Report on Chinese Beauty Brands in 2020 released by Shanghai New Consumption Research Center, except brand stores, online shopping has become the most mainstream way of consumption, and the number of consumers who buy through live streaming is growing.

49.6% of female consumers buy beauty products through online platforms, and 10.2% through web celebrity broadcast rooms.
